Q: Tell us about your role
A: As Ventures Product Manager, I am responsible for defining requirements and setting priorities. This also makes me the default project manager responsible for resource allocation and planning. I am also responsible for some of our marketing efforts, including this blog.
Q: What is your favorite Ventures Lending Technologies software feature and why?
A: My favorite software feature is one that is still under development. Apply+ is our applicant facing intake system. We are putting the finishing touches on the initial release which will allow loan applicants to apply online and upload relevant documents. Future releases will enable electronic signature collection, credit scoring, and other prequalification criteria. I am a little biased since this is my first project since starting with the Ventures team. It is an exciting new functionality.
Q: Describe the Ventures Lending Technologies team in 3 words.
A: Committed, Driven, Brilliant
Q: What were you doing before you came to Ventures Lending Technologies?
A: I joined the Ventures team in March of 2020. My previous role was Enterprise Architect at Colorado Lending Source, a CDC in Denver, CO. We had been evaluating our technology options and decided that our best course of action was to purchase Ventures and transition off of a home-grown system that was nearing the end of it’s useful life. I saw the type of value I could bring to Ventures with my background and Colorado Lending Source was supportive of me pursuing this opportunity. Prior to that I have 15 years of experience in all aspects of software architecture and development in a variety of different industries.
Q: What is the best part of your job?
A: I like that there is always something new to learn about the lending industry.
Q: What are your thoughts on technology and how it can help lenders achieve better relationships with small business owners?
A: The lending industry, especially non-profit, mission-based lenders, have traditionally been technologically underserved. Small business owners, as with all modern consumers, expect technology to assist and enhance their business needs. Ventures Lending Technologies exists to serve lenders and by extension, small businesses. We provide the technology that our lenders need and their borrowers expect.
Q: What inspires you?
A: Solving problems.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I live in the Colorado mountains and take advantage of that whenever I can. I play a lot of disc golf. I ski and snowboard, hike and camp. Pretty much anything outside is fair game.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
A: There are so many places that make this list for me. I really like Maui. The laid back vibe and mostly perfect weather and amazing beaches and scenery are hard to beat.
Q: If you could be any athlete for a single game, who would you be and why?
A: Snowboarder Shaun White. I snowboard but I have zero trick or freestyle skills. Riding a superpipe looks like such a rush.
Q: If you could instantly obtain any skill or talent, what would it be and why?
A: I wish I could draw. I’ve never had much talent with visual arts and think it would be fun.
