Each month we will feature a different team member and give you a peek at both their role at Ventures Lending Technologies along with some fun facts.

For our inaugural Meet the Team, we want to introduce you to Cat Riddle.  Cat is the Ventures Lending Technologies CEO and has been with the organization from the very beginning — back when a loan management software was just an idea and a tool to help make her work at the time more efficient. Cat is based in Houston, Texas.

Q: Tell us about your role

A: In addition to all the typical CEO duties, I set and guide our overall strategic direction and I make sure the team has the support they need to execute it.

Q: What is your favorite Ventures Lending Technologies software feature and why?

A: Loan Log date tracking. Our Loan Log is configurable by our clients. It allows date tracking within custom categories. It allows the client to specify prerequisite date fields (one date has to be set before another). It is very useful for keeping the loan team on the same page and identifying bottlenecks in the current processes that otherwise might not get noticed.   It was built in response to a lender-identified problem of trying to manage timelines through multiple spreadsheets.

Q: Describe the Ventures Lending Technologies team in 3 words.

A: Brilliant. Dedicated. Fun.

Q: What were you doing before you came to Ventures Lending Technologies? (tell us about your professional background)

A: I joined CDC Small Business Finance in 1994 to start up the Servicing Department. I was tinkering around in Access to create a better process for tracking insurance (it had previously been done in a 3-ring binder).  We saw an opportunity to add technology to minimize multiple points of data entry and increase consistency in our loan programs.  We improved upon our internal solution from 1995-2004, when the opportunity to commercialize the system arose, with 17 ready-to-convert clients, which evolved into Ventures Lending Technologies, an affiliate of CDC Small Business Finance.  Ventures has been an additional (and passionate) hat throughout my tenure with CDC, where I’ve also served as EVP of Operations and currently serve as CFO.   In my previous life, I was a loan review officer with a bank in Texas.

Q: What is the best part of your job?

A: I enjoy solving problems. The lending process can often be challenging for lenders and borrowers alike. Ventures gives me the opportunity to find new ways to tackle those challenges.

Q: What are your thoughts on technology and how it can help lenders achieve better relationships with small business owners?

A: Customers, in general, make buying decisions on price, speed, and quality and good technology can be a winner in all three of those categories. Ventures helps lenders solve for speed and quality by creating efficiency in the lending process and improving decision making, and we do it at a very affordable price.

Q: What inspires you?

A: The finish line.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

A: I enjoy being in the great outdoors. I also like reading historical fiction and spending time with family.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

A: Tuscany– for the scenery, the history, and of course, the wine.

Q: If you could be any athlete for a single game, who would you be and why?

A: Serena Williams–I’d like to know how it feels to serve a ball 125 mph.

Q: If you could instantly obtain any skill or talent, what would it be and why?

A: I would play the guitar like Stevie Ray Vaughan.
